SMSTunnel for WooCommerce extends the SMSTunnel plugin with WooCommerce-specific features. Send SMS notifications to customers when they place an order and when its status changes, and get an SMS for each new order.

The texts are sent from your own Android phone and number, so customers see a number they can reply to. You link the phone to your site by QR code in the main SMSTunnel plugin, and you can remove that connection anytime from the SMSTunnel app.

End-to-end encryption. Turn it on in the SMSTunnel plugin and these texts are encrypted for your phone before they leave WordPress, so only your phone can read the words. After your phone sends it, a text travels over the mobile network like any other SMS.

This addon requires the main SMSTunnel plugin to be installed and configured first.

Message Placeholders

Use these placeholders in your message templates:

• {order_id} – Order number

• {order_status} – Current order status

• {order_total} – Order total amount

• {customer_name} – Customer’s full name

• {customer_first_name} – Customer’s first name

• {site_name} – Your website name

• {tracking_number} – Tracking number (Tracking Message only)

• {tracking_provider} – Shipping company (Tracking Message only)

When Texts Are Sent

• New Order (Pending) – once per order, when the customer places it (classic checkout or Checkout block) or an order moves to Pending payment, if the order still waits for payment at the end of that step, for example while the customer pays on another site. An order paid at checkout or with cash on delivery is Processing by then and gets that text instead. An order you create in the admin as Pending payment doesn’t get it.

• Notify Admin on New Order – once for each order placed at checkout (classic checkout or Checkout block), when an “Admin Phone Number” is set. It doesn’t depend on the customer’s texts or on the customer giving a phone number.

• Processing, Completed, On Hold, Cancelled, Refunded – each time an order moves to that status.

• Shipment Tracking – when a tracking number is added with the free Advanced Shipment Tracking plugin, once per tracking number. Other tracking plugins don’t tell other plugins when they add a number, so they are not supported. Developers can send it from their own code with do_action( 'woocommerce_shipment_tracking_number_added', $order_id, $tracking_number, $tracking_provider ).

Until you save WooCommerce > Settings > SMS for the first time, the plugin sends what the tab shows: the statuses ticked there and the default texts.

Customer texts go to the order’s billing phone, so ask for it in international format (+ and the country code) at checkout.

External Services

This plugin relies on the SMSTunnel service to deliver SMS messages. When an order is placed, its status changes, a tracking number is added or an admin sends an SMS, the recipient phone number and message content are transmitted to the SMSTunnel API.
