Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records WebCrew Site Detective version 3.5.1 as active, updated 1mo ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

WebCrew Site Detective helps administrators answer a practical question: what changed before the problem appeared?

The plugin creates a local diagnostic timeline and highlights events that may be relevant to an incident. It does not claim that correlation proves causation. All features are included for free.

Included features

  • Activity timeline for important WordPress changes.
  • Plugin activation and deactivation logging.
  • Plugin, theme and WordPress update logging.
  • Environment snapshot comparison to detect version and activation changes.
  • Theme switch logging.
  • Content creation, editing and deletion logging.
  • Important WordPress settings change logging.
  • User account and role change logging.
  • Successful and failed login logging.
  • PHP fatal error capture with duplicate suppression.
  • wp_mail failure logging.
  • 404 spike detection without storing requested URLs.
  • Detective Scan that ranks recent events by diagnostic relevance.
  • Incident Center that groups related events into a readable diagnostic timeline.
  • Site Score showing recent operational risk at a glance.
  • Manual and optional automatic read-only site tests with history and degradation-only alerts.
  • Homepage and REST API response checks.
  • HTTPS, PHP, WP-Cron and debug-display checks.
  • Critical event e-mail alerts with rate limiting.
  • CSV and JSON export.
  • Configurable log retention.
  • IP privacy mode: IP addresses are hashed by default.
  • WordPress personal-data exporter and eraser integration.
  • Responsive WordPress admin interface.
  • Error Trends with 7/14/30-day visual history.
  • Plugin Health diagnostic profiles for active plugins.
  • Standalone incident detail with forensic timeline.
  • Database table change detection between diagnostic snapshots.
  • Automatic problem lifecycle: new, recurring, current and historical diagnostic signals.
  • Recency-weighted Site Score so old non-recurring errors have less impact on the current state.
  • No telemetry, no external WebCrew account, no license key, no paid feature gates.

Privacy

Site Detective stores its diagnostic data in the local WordPress database. By default, client IP addresses are pseudonymized using a one-way HMAC hash. Administrators may explicitly enable full IP logging.

The plugin does not send diagnostic data to WebCrew or another external service.

The Diagnostics page performs requests to the site’s own homepage and REST API when opened by an administrator.
