Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records Ukrainian Cyrillic to Latin by OSTG version 1.0.5 as active, updated 12h ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

Ukrainian Cyrillic to Latin by OSTG is a WordPress plugin that automatically transliterates Ukrainian Cyrillic characters into Latin characters for SEO-friendly URLs and improved readability.

This plugin helps Ukrainian WordPress sites create cleaner, more accessible URLs by converting Cyrillic text to Latin equivalents in posts, pages, categories, tags, and media files.

Key Features

  • Automatic Transliteration – Works seamlessly in the background
  • Post & Page Slugs – Converts permalinks to Latin characters
  • Category & Tag Slugs – Makes taxonomy URLs more readable
  • Media Files – Transliterates uploaded file names
  • Customizable Options – Configure apostrophe handling and case conversion
  • SEO Optimized – Improves search engine indexing and user experience
  • Lightweight – Minimal impact on site performance

How It Works

The plugin follows the official Ukrainian transliteration standard (Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 55 of January 27, 2010) and automatically converts:

  • Post and page slugs when publishing or updating content
  • Category and tag slugs when creating or editing them
  • Media filenames during upload

Є, Ї, Й, Ю and Я are written as ye, yi, y, yu and ya at the beginning of a word and as ie, i, i, iu and ia elsewhere. The combination “зг” becomes “zgh”.

Transliteration Examples

  • Київ → kyiv
  • Україна → ukraina
  • Юрій → yurii
  • Яготин → yahotyn
  • Згорани → zghorany
  • Знам’янка → znamianka

Settings

Configure the plugin behavior at Settings → Ukrainian Cyrillic to Latin:

  • Remove Apostrophes: Remove apostrophes from transliterated text
  • Convert to Lowercase: Convert all transliterated text to lowercase
