Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →
WP PlugIndex currently records Imagalt Image Description Assistant version 0.1.0 as active, updated 1mo ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.
Overview
About this plugin
Manually writing alt text for hundreds of images is a job nobody finishes. com and does it for you — an AI vision model looks at every image and writes a clear, human alt text.
1) — and an ADA / European Accessibility Act (EAA) lawsuit magnet. Fixes take minutes, not weekends.
See everything before anything changes
Most bulk tools write straight into your media library. If the AI gets an image wrong, your only option is to hunt it down by hand. That’s exactly the mess this plugin is built to avoid:
Dry-run preview — every generated alt text appears in a review table first. Nothing is written until you press Apply.
Skip existing alt text — images that already have alt text are never touched by default. Overwriting your own work requires a deliberate choice.
One-click rollback — every apply is snapshotted. If a batch looks wrong, restore the previous alt text for the whole batch with one click.
Built for real media libraries
A dedicated Alt text column in the media library shows which images are missing alt (and which were AI-filled).
Filter by “only missing alt” or by upload date, so you can fix the backlog once and then keep new uploads covered.
Applies in safe chunks — closing your browser mid-run never leaves you without a snapshot.
How it works
Create a free account at imagalt.com and copy your API key (Settings → API Keys).
Paste the key into the plugin settings. Free accounts get 25 image credits every month — no credit card.
Open Media → Bulk Alt Text, scan, review the preview, apply.
Need more volume? com/pricing for more monthly credits and API access. The plugin works with your existing credits — credits are spent on your imagalt account, not inside WordPress.
Who is this for?
Site owners who care about accessibility (ADA, Section 508, WCAG 2.2, EAA 2025).
SEOs — descriptive alt text helps Google Images and has been a ranking factor signal for image search for years.
Agencies maintaining client sites with years of untagged images.
