Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records Angry Menu Hider version 1.0.4 as active, updated 21d ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

“The client only needs Posts, Pages and Orders. ”

Angry Menu Hider is built for the moment you hand a WordPress site over to a client or an editor. Open one screen, pick their role, tick what they don’t need, drag the rest into a sensible order and give items names they understand. No code, no settings spread over several screens.

What makes it different

  • Badges survive renaming. Rename “WooCommerce” to “Shop” and the live counters (new orders, pending comments, available updates) keep showing and keep updating. They are not frozen or lost with the old name.
  • You can’t lock yourself out by accident. Before you save, the plugin warns you if the rules would hide the whole menu from you or hide its own settings page. The settings page always stays reachable by its URL.
  • See why an item shows up. The details panel of every item shows its real URL, the capability it requires and the capabilities the selected role has, with the required one highlighted. Useful when a plugin’s menu appears for a role that shouldn’t see it.
  • The real menu, not a guess. The list is recorded from wp-admin as it actually renders on your site, including every plugin’s menus and submenus, so what you tick is exactly what the role sees.
  • One visual screen. Hide, rename, reorder and add items in the same place, with live search across all items and subitems.

Features

  • Hide any top-level menu item or submenu item, for any role: built-in or custom (shop manager, membership and LMS roles, …).
  • Rename items; live notification badges are kept.
  • Drag & drop to reorder top-level items and submenu items.
  • Add custom menu items and subitems with your own URL, optionally opening in a new tab, and edit them later.
  • Live search by name or slug.
  • Item details: URL, required capability, the role’s capabilities.
  • Lockout warnings before saving.
  • Clear all rules of a role with one click.
  • Users with several roles get the rules of all of them.
  • Built-in documentation.

Angry Menu Hider PRO

Angry Menu Hider PRO adds:

  • Rules for individual users.
  • The admin bar: hide, rename, reorder and add items.
  • Block access: deny the page itself (HTTP 403), not just the link, even if the user has the capability.
  • Preview wp-admin as a role or user, without switching accounts.
  • Custom icons for top-level items and separators with section titles.
  • Copy rules between roles and users, and import / export all rules as JSON.

Rules you create in the free version keep working when you upgrade.
